Reduction of computer fears was examined by comparing changes in computer attitudes over a semester among two introductory computer programming classes and one introductory psychology class (N=50). That question calls forth all of computer science from low-level machine design, through compilers, operating systems, programming and interaction design, to psychology and organisation theory. In my experience, we rarely look at psychological issues related to software development. Weinberg is eminently quotable. Jerry Weinberg was the first researcher to look at this stuff in his classic PSYCHOLOGY OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING. I think the major culprit is Gerald Weinberg's book, The Psychology of Computer Programming: Silvery Anniversary Edition. This landmark 1971 classic is reprinted with a new preface, chapter-by-chapter commentary, and straight-from-the-heart observations on topics that affect the professional life of programmers. His experience with both computer programming and human psychology has led him to notice the many similarities that exist between the two fields. Sometimes things go beautifully, sometimes a programmer spends whole days beating his head against the wall on a single point, until finally the light bulb lights up. Egoless programming's roots lie in the book, “The Psychology of Computer Programming” by Jerry Weinburg, 1971. These are The Psychology of Computer Programming. Critical subject matter should include economics, statistics, mathematics, logic and systems modeling, current (not historical) cultural evolution, psychology, and computer programming. Weinburg describes a style of development environment relying heavily on peer reviews.
